Flower Power

I have lived in Southern California my whole life and I can't believe it has taken me 29 years to make it to The Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch. I have no excuse, it only takes 30 minutes (without traffic of course) to get there from my house in San Clemente.

After the wet winter we had this year, I had a feeling this would be the perfect year to finally make it down to Carlsbad and witness first hand the spectacular ranunculus fields. My parents are always down to go on little day trips and while my mom knew why were going my dad was like why are we driving to Carlsbad to go look at a field? Well obviously we were going to take pictures, duh dad!!

We bought our tickets online the day before, and got there about 15 minutes before they opened at 9am. There was quite a line to buy tickets when we got there so I recommend buying them ahead of time so you can just walk in.

At first sight, the 50 acres of colorful flowers are simply stunning. I pretty much ran up to the platform where it opened up to rows of beautiful pink flowers.

We spent about an hour wondering through the fields taking photos and on our way out we passed a vendor booth for Carlsbad Cookie Company with the prettiest ranunculus shaped short-bread cookies. They tasted just as good as they looked. We left with a box full of cookies and headed to Park Hyatt Aviara for lunch. It was a perfect way to spend a Saturday!

There are only two weeks left to visit the fields for the season which ends May 14th.
